FSU Student Joseph Orr Will Perform Senior Trumpet Recital
Frostburg State University’s Department of Music will present student Joseph Orr in his senior trumpet recital on Friday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU’s Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. He will be accompanied by pianist Dr. Joseph Yungen. The concert is free and open to the public. This event will also be livestreamed; click the “Join Stream” button on this page a few minutes before the recital is scheduled to begin, or any time during the recital, to view the live performance.
Orr will be joined by guest artists from the Brass Quintet: Patrick Godfrey on trumpet, Brice Simpson on French horn, Alex Frye on trombone and Doug Holtz on tuba, as well as members of the Jazz Combo: Max Partlow on tenor saxophone, Tom Harrison on bass and Ben Alvey on drum set.
Orr will perform “Solo de concours” by Théo Charlier, “Légende” by George Enescu, “Amazing Grace” by John Newton, “Brass Quintet No.1” by Victor Ewald, “In a Sentimental Mood” by Duke Ellington and “Joy Spring” by Clifford Brown.
Orr studies under Dr. Donald Albrecht at FSU, where he has been on the Dean’s List every semester and has been an Annual Fund band assistant. He is a recipient of the Mable Myers Music Memorial Scholarship, Woodward and Virginia Pealer Scholarship, Sandra Saville Merit Scholarship, Marguerite Witwer Richards Scholarship and Karen and Joseph Wooddell Scholarship. Orr anticipates graduating in May 2024 with a bachelor’s in music performance. He plans to become a professional musician and private instructor; his other career interest is game development. Orr attended Southern Garrett High School in Oakland. He is the son of Nicole Guthrie of Oakland and Gary Orr of Baltimore.
