FSU’s Department of Theatre and Dance Hosts Mountain Maryland Theatre Festival
Frostburg State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance will host the second Mountain Maryland Theatre Festival, an annual event designed for students in grades 8 through 12, on Friday, Jan. 10, and Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at FSU’s Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center.
This year’s theme is “Theatre Is My Sport” in recognition of the commitment and skill it takes to be a theatre artist.
The festival promises an exciting lineup of events for theatre artists in acting, design and technology, and stage management. It will feature professional workshops; one-act and scene presentations; a fun Tech Olympics challenge; adjudication in acting, stage management, and design and technology; a dance party; a keynote address; and an awards ceremony.
Notable FSU alumni will return to share their expertise during the festival. Once again, this year’s keynote speaker will be Cumberland native and FSU Theatre alum, Justin Seward, the assistant properties master of the prestigious Huntington Theatre in Boston, which won a Regional Theatre Tony Award in 2013.
The cost of the festival is $40 through Monday, Dec. 16. Registrants will receive meals and a festival T-shirt.
The Mountain Maryland Theatre Festival is sponsored by FSU’s Department of Theatre and Dance, the FSU Foundation and the Allegany Arts Council.
