Woodwind Studio Recital

FSU’s Department of Music to Present the Woodwind Studio Recital

The Frostburg State University Department of Music will present student musicians and faculty artists in the Woodwind Studio Recital on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU’s Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. The recital will feature solos and duets for clarinet, saxophone and flute. This event is free and open to the public.

The faculty artists are clarinetist Dr. Mark Gallagher, saxophonist Dr. Brent Weber, flutist Eftihia Arkoudis and pianist Dr. Joseph Yungen. The students are Patience Loscomb, Liz Munger, Josh Bittinger and Kaitlyn Tilly on clarinets; Caitlyn Rund on saxophone; and Alexandra Hill, Kyla Nauman and Shefali Shah on flutes.

The concert begins with a clarinet solo called “Cloud Balloon” by Swedish composer Fredrik Högberg, played by Loscomb. The second clarinet solo is “Capriccio” by Swiss composer Heinrich Sutermeister, performed by Munger. The next piece is the “Concert Duo No.1 in E-flat Major” by Finnish composer Bernhard Henrik Crusell and played by Bittinger. The final clarinet piece is “Sonata in D Minor for Clarinet and Continuo” by German composer Georg Philipp Telemann, to be played by Tilley.

Next is a saxophone piece by American composer Paul Creston, titled “Sonata, Op. 59 (I. With Vigor).” This will be performed by Rund. The last four pieces in the program are for flute, beginning with “Andante et Scherzo” by French composer Louis Ganne, performed by Hill. The next piece is the “Three Romances, Op. 94” by German composer Robert Schumann. The piece will be played by Nauman.

The last two performances are flute duets. The first is “Maya” by British composer Ian Clarke, performed by Shah and Arkoudis. Finally, “Adagio” and “Allegro” from “Sonata 1 in A Minor” by Belgian composer J.B. Loeillet will be played by Nauman and Arkoudis.
