FSU’s Theatre and Dance to Present Hilarious Misunderstandings and Joyful Mayhem in “She Stoops to Conquer”
Frostburg State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance continues its spring season with a delightfully witty comedy by novelist, playwright and poet Oliver Goldsmith. Performances will be Friday and Saturday, April 14 and 15, and Thursday through Saturday, April 20 through 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Drama Theatre of the Performing Arts Center. A matinee performance will be held on Saturday, April 15, at 2 p.m.
Directed by Mairzy Yost-Rushton, the comedic play follows city slickers Marlow and Hastings, who travel to the countryside in search of love. They find themselves in a tangle of pranks and mistaken identities, including the belief that their prominent host (and Marlow’s possible future father-in-law), Mr. Hardcastle, is a mere innkeeper. The Hardcastle household becomes uproariously unhinged as Kate Hardcastle takes matters into her own hands to find the real identity of the man she is destined to be with. “She Stoops to Conquer” is a satirical romp that promises as much laughter today as it did to audiences more than 200 years ago.
