Sigma Tau Delta: Annual Reading of Banned and Challenged Books

Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 7:00pm

Lane Center 111 101 Braddock Road, Frostburg, MD, Frostburg

FSU’s English Honors Society to Host Banned Books Reading

Frostburg State University’s chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honors Society, will present its annual reading of banned and challenged books on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. in room 111 of the Lane University Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Past readers have read from the notoriously shocking, like “A Clockwork Orange” and William S. Burrough’s “Naked Lunch.” Others have read from Dr. Seuss’ children’s books, which have been challenged for their subversive political and social messages.

The event is held in conjunction with the American Library Association’s annual Banned Books Week. This yearly commemoration, as the American Library Association notes, “reminds Americans not to take this precious democratic freedom for granted.”
