Second Annual Thanksgiving Non-Perishable Food Drive and Reading
The Frostburg Center for Creative Writing, in partnership with Main Street Books and A STAR! AmeriCorps, will hold its second annual Thanksgiving Open Mic Reading and Non-Perishable Food Drive on Monday, Nov. 19, at Main Street Books at 2 E. Main St. in Frostburg, starting at 7:30 p.m. Participants and spectators are asked to bring non-perishable food items, preferably related to Thanksgiving.
Local writers and community members will kick off the reading with works of poetry and prose based loosely on the theme of food. The second half of the reading will be opened to the public to read works of their choice, also based loosely on the theme of food. Interested persons receive a five-minute segment to read. Selected readers include Pulitzer Prize winner Stephen Dunn; FSU faculty Gerry LaFemina, Barbara Hurd and Nina Forsythe; and author Jennifer Merrifield.
For those who cannot make it to the reading, CCW will collect non-perishable food items until Tuesday, Nov. 20. Donations can be dropped off at Main Street Books or at the Center for Creative Writing at 22 E. Main St. in downtown Frostburg. Non-perishable food items will be donated to Frostburg Pantry Partners.
