Irish Musicians Kevin Burke and Cal Scott to Perform at Mountain City Traditional Arts

Irish fiddler Kevin Burke and multi-instrumentalist Cal Scott will perform traditional Irish Music at Mountain City Traditional Arts, 25 E. Main St., Frostburg, on Sunday, March 16, at 3 p.m. Combining their talents and experience, this duo brings to Frostburg a truly exciting performance that will let you celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day with traditional Irish music.

Burke is a renowned Irish fiddler and has been at the forefront of traditional music for over 30 years. Burke has earned international acclaim working as a solo performer, a teacher and as a member of some of folk music’s foremost groups, including Celtic Fiddle Festival and Patrick Street. He is also a featured member of Grammy winner Tim O’Brien’s crossover band The Crossing. Burke met Scott when Burke was brought in as a consultant for a documentary on Northern Ireland that Scott was working on.

Scott’s professional career has spanned traditional, bluegrass, jazz and everything in between. Scott plays and sings in the eight-piece folk ensemble The Trail Band and is also a noted composer and arranger with dozens of scores written for documentaries, films and commercials. Scott is most well-known for his film score for “Scotland’s Lighthouses,” which was recognized in 2006 by Just Plain Folks Music Awards with fourth place in the Celtic Album of the Year and fifth place in the Celtic Song of the Year.
