MCTA Presents Chinese Puppet Artist Lihui Chen March 13
Frostburg State University’s Mountain City Traditional Arts will host an evening performance by Lihui Chen, a Chinese puppet artist, on Wednesday, March 13, at 6 p.m. at 25 E. Main St. in Frostburg. The live performance is free and open to the public.
Lihui Chen is a young artist at the Handbag and Puppet Protection Performing Center of Zhangzhou City. He specializes in harlequin performances and inheritors of intangible cultural heritage. He has visited more than 30 countries and regions on behalf of China and his troupe. Chen was awarded the Zhu Xihua Award (Outstanding Actor) at the 2018 China – ASEAN Drama Festival and teaches puppet lessons to students in a vocational program.
Chen will offer a teaching puppet performance, demonstrating movement and technique. This program is in partnership with World Artists Experiences and FSU’s Minor in Cultural Anthropology.
