Lyra - Vocal Ensemble from St. Petersburg, Russia

From Russia With Love: Russian Vocal Ensemble to Perform at FSU

The Department of Music at Frostburg State University will present Lyra, the internationally recognized Russian vocal ensemble of St. Petersburg, on Monday, Sept. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall at the Performing Arts Center. In a unique opportunity for Lyra to share their outstanding Russian musical heritage with the Frostburg community, the free concert will feature sacred Russian choral music from the Russian Orthodox Church and a variety of Russian folk songs.

Consisting of four singers who studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, the vocal ensemble was awarded the Montreux, Switzerland, International Choral Festival Diploma in 2001 and the Coleraine International Choral Festival Award in Northern Ireland in 2005. Lyra performs in professional choirs and opera houses throughout Europe, including Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Holland, Great Britain, Ireland and Sweden. They also make annual concert trips throughout the United States, and this year, FSU will be one of the stops along the way. CDs will be available for purchase after the concert.
