FSU Faculty Artist Series to Present Pianist Dr. Jay DeWire
The Frostburg State University Department of Music Faculty Artist Series will present pianist Dr. Jay DeWire on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU’s Performing Arts Center. The recital is free and open to the public.
The recital will feature “Concert Etude, S. 145/1: Waldesrauschen” (“Forest Rustlings”), “Nuage Gris” (“Grey Clouds”), “Orage” (“Storm”) from “Annees de Pelerinage Book I” and Au bord d’une source” (“By a Spring”) from “Annees de Pelerinage Book 1” by Franz Liszt; “Sonata quasi fantasia, Op. 27/2” by Ludwig van Beethoven; and “Gaspard de la nuit: Trois poèmes pour piano d’après Aloysius Bertrand” by Maurice Ravel.
DeWire has appeared up and down the Eastern Seaboard and is known for his dynamic interpretations of 20th-century works. His recent concerts include solo recitals at the University of Maryland College Park; a collaborative performance at Indiana University with John Tafoya, then-principal timpanist of the National Symphony Orchestra; and performances at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and New England Conservatory. He has appeared in numerous competitions and was a finalist in the American Musicological Society Mid-Atlantic Chapter Writing Competition.
