FSU to Present Holiday Concert.
Join the Frostburg State University Wind Ensemble, Chamber Choir and Vocal Jazz Ensemble as they join forces to present the Department of Music’s Holiday Concert, Sunday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of the FSU Performing Arts Center. Admission for the general public is $5, $3 for students and free for children 12 and younger. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door.
Under the direction of Philip Klickman, director of Bands, the FSU Wind Ensemble will perform “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson; “O Magnum Mysterium” by Morten Lauridsen and transcribed by H. Robert Reynolds; the second movement of “Symphonies de Noel” by Clark McAlister based on the French carol, “Un soir que les bergers”; and “Russian Christmas Music” by Alfred Reed.
The FSU Chamber Choir, with Dr. Karen Soderberg as conductor, will perform the humorous “Sweater Weather” by Kennth Jennings; “Carol of the Bells”; “Rune of Hospitality” by Alf Houkom and featuring Patrick Sise on the guitar; and “Serenity” by Ola Gjielo and “Star in the East” by Malcolm Dalglish and featuring Dr. Greg Latta on the hammered dulcimer.
The Vocal Jazz Ensemble, also under the direction of Soderberg and accompanied by pianist Dr. James DeWire, bassist Michael Murphy and drummer Greg Jaeger, will perform “Christmas Time Is Here” arranged by Tina Chinn; “Waltz for an Open Sleigh” by Dan Davison; and the rousing “Sing, Sing, Sing” arranged by Darmon Meader.
