FSU’s Center for Creative Writing to Host New York Lounge Night
Frostburg State University’s Center for Creative Writing is hosting a New York Lounge Night at the Lyric Theatre, 22 E. Main St. in Frostburg, on Saturday, April 20, at 8:30 p.m., featuring a performance by singer-pianist Mary Edwards and a reading by poet George Guida.
Edwards is a composer, singer, arranger, producer and sound artist whose recent albums include “Eastern/Central & Mountain/Pacific” and “Console.” Radio personality Bobby Rivers has said her music “shines with the quality and influence of a super-cool pop era,” and Julio Razquin of WOOL.FM says “Eastern/Central & Mountain/Pacific” is “replete with lush musical architecture, gorgeously crafted soft edges and curves, and lyrics that take your soul to places you’ve always wanted it to visit …”
Guida has authored four books, most recently “The Pope Stories and Other Tales of Troubled Times,” which author and FSU Department of English faculty member Brad Barkley says is “filled with subtle insights and clever turns of phrase.” In addition, he has authored several volumes of poetry and has been featured in various literary magazines and anthologies.
Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased at the Allegany Arts Council, Main Street Books and the Frostburg Center for Creative Writing. The Lounge Night benefits the Frostburg Center for Creative Writing.
