FSU Presents Percussion Ensemble Concert
The Frostburg State University Percussion Ensemble will present its spring concert on Thursday, April 25, at 8 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU’s Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert will begin with a classic of the percussion ensemble repertoire, the “Overture for Percussion Ensemble” by John Beck, followed by “Alegre Muchacho” by percussionist and noted humorist Alan Abel. The first half of the program will conclude with Christopher Rouse’s tribute to the drumming rituals of the Caribbean, “Ogoun Badagris.”
Also included is a selection by Ney Rosauro, the world-renowned Brazilian composer and percussionist. His “Mitos Basileiros” (“Brazilian Myths”) explores five legends of the country’s folklore through the timbres and rhythms of the percussion family – with additional sound effect surprises. The program will conclude with a transcription of a Bela Fleck favorite, “Sinister Minister.”
