FSU Concert Jazz Ensemble Presents “Tribute to the Greats” Concert
Frostburg State University’s Concert Jazz Ensemble presents its “Tribute to the Greats” concert on Friday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 in the Pealer Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert will pay homage to big band leaders Stan Kenton, Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson and Gordon Goodwin. In remembrance of Cannonball Adderley’s visit to Frostburg in 1970, when Adderley was made an honorary member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia’s Xi Omega chapter, the Ensemble will also perform “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy” from Adderley’s 1966 album, “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy! ‘Live at the Club.’” The group will also perform a 2012 composition “Abide” by Eric Richards, which is based on the hymn “Abide With Me.”
The concert will also feature two jazz combos made up of students pursuing the new jazz studies minor. Under the direction of Bill Green and Tom Harrison, these groups were featured as a part of the FSU Drama Department’s production of “Barefoot in the Park.”
