FSU Guitar Ensemble to Present “The 20th Century and Beyond” Concert

Frostburg State University’s Guitar Ensemble will present its spring concert “The 20th Century and Beyond” on Tuesday, May 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU’s Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

The program will begin with “Knights of Cydonia” by Matthew Bellamy performed by Nick Dennison, Charlie Engleka and Casey Stahlman. The concert will continue with “Here Comes the Sun” by George Harrison performed by Mikayla Young, Alexa Bashaw and Zach Dodge and “Autumn Leaves” by Jonny Mercer performed by Engleka and Garrett Yoder. Following this, members of Guitar Ensemble will present the following solo works: Engleka Performing “Over the Rainbow” by Harold Arlen, Eric Gontrum presenting “Merry Dance” by Alan Hirsh and “Etude No. 6” by Leo Brouwer, Seth Carter performing “Once Upon a Rainy Day” by Jubing Kristianto, Peter Spencer-Strong performing “Rain Song” by Page/Plant and Yoder performing “Sunburst” by Andrew York.

During the second half of the program, the Guitar Ensemble will perform “Cuban Landscape With Rain” by Brouwer. Next Bashaw, Gontrum, Spencer-Strong, Faith Anderson and Rasheed Billy will perform “The House of the Rising Sun” by Alan Price and “Let It Be” by Lennon and McCartney, and Dennison and Carter will perform “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by Craig/Charlie Reed.

The recital will close with “Foxey Lady” and “Purple Haze” by Jimi Hendrix.
