Family and Friends to Come Together at FSU’s Family Weekend
FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State University will host its 2013 Family Weekend from Friday, Oct. 11, through Sunday, Oct. 13. Students, families and friends are all invited to enjoy the festivities and participate in the scheduled events, most free and open to the public.
Start off the weekend on a good note with a Cultural Events Series performance by the Maryland Symphony Orchestra featuring Time for Three, the first classically trained “garage band,” at 8 p.m. in the FSU Performing Arts Center Pealer Recital Hall. Purchase tickets at 301-687-3137 or visit ces.frostburg.edu. Afterward, catch a free showing of the feature film, “Grown Ups II,” in Lane University Center, Room 111, at 11 p.m.
Events for Saturday, Oct. 12, begin with Passport FSU, an event designed for families to experience firsthand what students are learning in an interactive way. Meet faculty members, participate in fun demonstrations and see displays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at a variety of locations across campus. Maps will be available at the Family Weekend information table in the second floor lobby of Lane University Center starting at 10 a.m.
Support Sorority Bid Day or be a part of the home field advantage as the FSU Bobcats face Utica in football at 1 p.m. Then dance to the Afro-Cuban melodies of musician Pedro Martinez as he performs free concerts at 1, 2:15 and 3:30 p.m. at Lane University Center Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall. An Afro-Cuban Festival, including food, games, workshops and activities inspired by the culture, will occur simultaneously in the Lane University Center. When it’s time to settle down, end the day with an evening stroll during the Frostburg Arts Walk on Main Street from 5 to 8 p.m. or kick back and relax to free showings of “Despicable Me II” at 2 p.m. and “Grown Ups II” at 4:30 p.m. at Lane University Center, Room 111.
The Family Weekend/Arts Walk Shuttle will run continuously on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. Vans will pick up and drop off passengers from FSU in front of the Performing Arts Center, two locations on Main Street (Palace Theatre and the corner of Centre and Main), Giuseppe’s on Bowery Street and the Frostburg Museum.
On Sunday, Oct. 13, FSU families with two or more generations of Bobcats are invited to a legacy breakfast at 9 a.m. in the Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall at Lane University Center.
