FSU Presents Faculty Artist Series Featuring Brent Weber on Bassoon

Frostburg State University presents Brent Weber as he performs his bassoon recital in the Faculty Artist Series on Thursday, March 14, at 8 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall in FSU’s Performing Arts Center. “Recit,” an evening of bassoon music, is presented in preparation for Weber’s Doctorate of Arts in Music degree recital at the University of Georgia. He will be accompanied by fellow faculty members, pianist Dr. James DeWire and clarinetist Dr. Mark Gallagher.

The performance will feature “Sonata in F Minor” by Georg Phillip Telemann, “Bassoon Concerto in B-flat Major” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, “Duo for Clarinet and Bassoon III” by Ludwig Von Beethoven, “Six Studies in English Folk Song” by Ralph Vaughan Williams and “Recit, Sicilienne et Rondo” by Eugene Bozza.

Weber, a lecturer at FSU in saxophone and jazz, has enjoyed a diverse musical journey as performer and educator. After earning a bachelor’s degree in saxophone performance from Southern Oregon University and his master’s at the University of Georgia, he joined the faculty as assistant professor of saxophone at the Sichuan Conservatory of Music in the capitol of China’s Sichuan province, Chengdu. After two years teaching and freelancing in Southwest China, Weber returned to the U.S. to pursue his Doctorate in Musical Arts, which includes a minor in bassoon. Most recently, Weber was part of the 2012 Naxos release Street Song featuring the University of Georgia Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. John Lynch.
