Frostburg State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance is giving everyone a chance to test their detective skills with “The Mousetrap,” the longest-running stage play in the world by Agatha Christie. Performances will take place on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 16 and 17, and Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 22 to 24, at 7:30 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday Oct. 17. Performances will take place in the Drama Theatre in the Performing Arts Center.

The play starts shortly after Mollie and Giles Ralston, played by Maureen Groff of Jefferson, Md., and Matthew Clark of Ellerslie, Md., welcome an eccentric group of visitors to their guest house in the English countryside. News of a nearby murder casts a dark shadow over the weekend, and a snowstorm ends any plans to escape. As the snow grows deeper, so does the mystery. Secrets from the past cause a flurry. Another murder takes place. Everyone is a suspect, and in this deadly game of cat-and-mouse, only one person knows the rules.

Celebrated as the world's longest running play, “The Mousetrap” delivers both terrifying suspense and good humor.

Other performers include Habtamu Anderson of Frostburg, Eric O’Neal of Sykesville, Md., Candace Jones of Seat Pleasant, Md., Kenneth Waters Jr. of Waldorf, Md., Alex Hemphill of Hagerstown, Md., and Deion Dowadu of Baltimore.

The student production and design crew includes Brandon Huguley of Port Tobacco, Md., assistant director; Jennifer Grein of Hanover, Md., stage manager; Erik Braun of White Plains, Md., set designer; James LaDow of Sykesville, sound designer; Rachel Saylor of Davidsville, Pa., costume designer; Rebekah Brown of Cumberland, assistant stage manager; and Alejandro Portillo Romero of Montgomery Village, Md., assistant stage manager.

Faculty include Jen Goff, director; Brian Scruggs, lighting designer; and Gordon Duguid, properties designer.

FSU’s production of The Mousetrap has been entered in the Kennedy Center’s Region II American College Theatre Festival.

New this season, there will be refreshments in the lobby before the show and during intermission. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $6 for students. Season subscriptions and group prices are available. For more information, contact the Theatre and Dance box office at 301-687-7462 Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 4 p.m.
