Frostburg State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance is bringing gut-busting laughter, romance, magic and mischief to its audiences for the 2013-2014 season, promising to enthrall adults and children alike with a host of captivating performances.

First in line is Charles Busch’s “Psycho Beach Party,” a twisted surf film spoof on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 12, at 2 and 7:30 p.m.; and Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 17 to 19, at 7:30 p.m. This outlandish play humorously mocks Hollywood stereotypes and silly 1960s slasher films with ridiculous characters and campy dialogue. The play centers on teenage tomboy Chicklet Forrest, whose greatest desire is to be part of the Malibu surf crowd. Unfortunately, her multiple personality disorder gets in the way, especially because one of her personalities is a voracious dominatrix bent on taking over the world. When a series of odd, knife-wielding crimes takes place, Chicklet is an obvious suspect; however, with characters like the Great Kanaka and Starcat, so is everyone else. Performances will take place in the F. Perry Smith Studio Theatre. This program is recommended for mature audiences.
