The beloved Los Angeles dance company, Lula Washington Dance Theatre, arrives for an evening of commanding, energetic and athletic performances. Lulu Washington, who created choreography and movement for the Hollywood films “Avatar” and “The Little Mermaid,” is a true original in the dance world, and her risk-taking works draw attention to multiple social issues – from the plight of women
to the extraordinary courage of U.S. soldiers. New York Times dance critic Jennifer Dunning states that Washington is an original, in part because of the concern for social issues that informs some of her dances and the gentle, but persistent way she addresses those issues.
