The Brubeck Brothers Quartet Celebrates Dave Brubeck Centennial With CES at FSU LIVE! at StarScape Performance
The Cultural Events Series at Frostburg State University will present the Brubeck Brothers Quartet, who will celebrate the music of American musical legend Dave Brubeck in a LIVE! at StarScape performance on Friday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall of FSU’s Lane University Center. The club-style event, which is sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. Peter Halmos, features bar service and a menu of beverages, appetizers and desserts.
The year 2020 marks the centennial of American jazz legend Dave Brubeck. His sons Chris and Dan Brubeck, who performed and recorded with their father from an early age, invite the audience to travel along the timeline of their father’s extraordinary life and career. Through stories and music, the show is a true celebration of a cultural icon.
Although the quartet’s style is rooted in “straight-ahead” jazz, their concerts reveal an inherent ability to explore odd time signatures while integrating influences of funk, blues and world music. The group’s creativity, technique and improvisation can be heard in its uncompromising music, which reflects a dedication to melody, rhythm, culture and the spontaneous spirit of jazz.
“The BBQ attains that rare field level where music is both relaxed and expressive, and their joy in its creation is contagious,” declared the website All About Jazz. “There’s nothing out there that comes close to their unique blend of inventiveness.”
Immediately following the performance, CES will join forces with FSU’s WFWM-FM Public Radio to present the Offstage Series With WFWM, when station director Chuck Dicken will join the artists for a lively interactive discussion with the audience. The Offstage Series is sponsored by Gonzaga Health.
Tickets are $17 for adults and $15.30 for youth under 18. Military, package and group discount rates are also available.
