Commemorating the books and their authors who have pushed boundaries for freedom of speech and press, Frostburg State University will have an evening dedicated to reading books deemed too controversial and therefore banned or challenged. The English Honors Society Sigma Tau Delta, the Department of English and the Ort Library at FSU will host the event Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. on the third floor of the Ort Library.

The reading is held in conjunction with the American Library Association’s Annual Banned Book Week: Celebrating the Freedom to Read.

All attendants are encouraged to read a selection if interested. Examples of some challenged books include “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian” by Sherman Alexie, “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini and “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by

Stephen Chboky.

For more information, and if you want to read at the event, contact Dr. Mary Anne Lutz of the FSU Department of English at mlutz@frostburg.edu or Dr. Lea Messman-Mandicott of the Ort Library at lmessman@frostburg.edu.
